new hair for mommy, too!

Gavin has his new haircut, and it was waaay past due for me to have mine done as well.

Here's the view from the front:

And the view from the side:

I looooove it. I feel about a gazillion times lighter, too, especially after seeing all the hair that was on the floor afterwards!! I'm sure I could get better pictures if I wait for Scott to come home instead of taking them myself in the bathroom mirror, but who has the patience for that??

le Tour de Gavin

Scott likes to mountain bike, so whenever Gavin sees a bike he says "bie! dada!" Even if it's on the front of a cycling magazine, it's "bie! dada! dada bie!" Gavin's also been watching the Tour de France with his daddy for the past few weeks. Add all that up and you'll come to the same conclusion Scott did this morning at Wal-Fart - Gavin needs a bike. Scott got him one that can be pushed around by one of us from behind and that also can be set up as a rocker (which is how we have it right now) until Gavin's big enough to actually reach the pedals. Gavin's two loves, rocking and bikes, combined into one heck of a fun toy! What more could a kid ask for?

Gavin's new look

I'm not really talking about his face, but here's another look at that crazy bruise:

Here is Gavin this morning, before we left the house. Side view:

Front view:

And here is Gavin after we returned from Snip-It's. Front view:

And side view:

He always looks so much older after he gets a haircut! I've been making Scott take him because Gavin cries during his trims, but today Scott's at school and G was especially shaggy, so I bit the bullet and took him myself. What a trooper! He cried initially, but by not even halfway through he was just looking around and doing a great job. He did start to cry again when she pulled the clippers back out to trim around his ears and neck, but then it was over! I think he looks fantastic.

ouch

Well, we had an exciting morning.

I was sitting at the kitchen table, eating my cereal, and Gavin was standing behind one of the kitchen chairs looking through it, peek-a-boo style. He must have leaned back because suddenly he was falling backwards (you know how it feels like everything is moving in slow motion?) and pulling the chair down on top of him. He immediately had a bruise below his left eye, and he must have cut himself in the corner as it was bleeding, and the whole thing is a puffy mess. I'm certain it'll turn into one heck of a shiner before long.

He was scared right after it happened, and of course it hurt, but he's fine and dandy now.

coloring time

Gavin pulled his little chair up to the coffee table, and it seemed like the perfect time to pull out paper and crayons.

Which color should I choose next?

Red looks good. Or does it? Hmmm...

Using that yellow crayon to make beautiful colorings:

Here Gavin had just been working on both pictures at once, while at the same time decorating the table top in between them. Guess I'll have to clean that up...

Here, Mom, help me out! You can use the green.

I'm excited to see that he's finally showing a hand preference, and it turns out that Gavin is right-handed, just like his mommy and daddy. He's making a lot more marks on the page than he used to. He's only occupied with coloring for 5-10 minutes before he's distracted by throwing crayons across the room, but that's some serious progress from just a little while ago.

On a non-Gavin-related note, I went to see Mamma Mia with friends today. What a great movie!! I really enjoyed it. It had all the things I love - music, dancing, cheese, sappiness - perfect! :)

a fun day

Gavin was lucky to have Lauren and Aleah come over to play with him today. We went to the pool, played at the park, and watched some TV. Gavin kept the girls pretty busy chasing down the blocks he threw all over the place. I know he enjoyed their company today - he seemed kinda lonely after they left!

Scott left today to spend a few days in Houston working on site at NASA. Boo. Gavin misses his daddy and so it's in his honor that we post the following video:

I'm ready for my photoshoot...

Gavin is intrigued by the camera.

I grabbed it after his nap because he was rocking in his little while rocking chair, saying "rock! rock!" as he rocked away - which came out sounding like "wock! wock!" - and was (of course) adorable. When I returned with the camera, it was nearly impossible to get any good pictures of him because he kept wanting to see what was on the camera on my side.

Hey Mom, whatcha got there?

Oh, is that a camera?? Let me see!!

These lovely photos were mostly taken in hold-the-camera-out-in-front-of-us-and-shoot fashion while I fervently hoped that I didn't just get my forehead and the ceiling in the shot.
Ooh, can I touch the camera lens?

I finally got a real picture of Gavin as he was putting his cow back on the shelf. He looks so grown up.

time's running out

We had Gavin's pictures taken a while back, and the photos are available for viewing here - click on "clients" and use "gavin" as the password. Mollie emailed me today to let me know that there is one week left for the online gallery before she has to remove it to make room for other galleries. If you were planning on ordering pictures, please make sure you've done so before next weekend!

In other news - we've been working on teaching Gavin to say "I love you" lately. His l's are more like w's when he talks, so the closest he's come is "wuh woo." Adorable. We'll do more practice and if I can get it on video, I'll share.

"The Gavel"

This afternoon Scott was teaching Gavin wrestling moves on the guest room bed. Now Uncle Sam can be proud that "The Gavel" is living up to his (very appropriate) wrestling name.

silly faces

My child has turned into such a ham! He entertained Missy and Bryant at lunch yesterday with silly faces and smiles, and I caught one of his favorites on camera during snack time this afternoon. He smiles and scrunches up his eyes so they're like slits. Scott calls it his "anime" face, like the Japanese cartoons. So silly. If I can get a better picture, I'll add it, but this is the best I've gotten so far:

On a personal and totally vain note, I got a ridiculous number of compliments on my new shoes today. Made me feel all sassy! :)

poor little guy

Gavin has an ear infection. I took him to the doctor this morning because of a rash on his tush. I mentioned that he'd has a runny nose for a few days, but so do all of his friends so I figured it was a cold going around (one always is). When she checked his ears she told me he had an ear infection! He'd not been tugging on his ears, though maybe it explains the snot and (possibly?) why he didn't want me to brush his teeth the past few days. Or maybe that's just being a toddler and trying to get your way.

Finally, some Gavin updates

I succumbed. I started a blog. Who knows if I'll keep up with it, but I'll try.
So Gavin and I have spent the summer together so far. It's been fun! He's so full of energy that it kinda makes my head spin.

And he loves his cat.

He also loves his dog. Poor, poor Jake.

We've spent our days playing, mostly, at home and at fun places at Radijazz, and getting together with friends. One of Gavin's favorite activities is playing with his blocks.

He's not quite as crazy about fingerpainting. When you don't like to get your hands dirty, that can get in the way of enjoying the squishy goodness of feeling paint all over your fingers and hands (and arms, and chest, and hair, and...). Oh well.

That's about all we have going on for now. I was at (fairly useless) inservice for the past 2 days so Gavin got to spend some time with Miss Kelly, who he absolutely loves. I'm glad that he gets to see her over the summer. Apparently, at her house on Monday he said "chocolate" - !!! Crazy little man.
